Visitors to the Riga Festival of Light are offered three routes to take along the Riga Canal and the parks and city areas near the canal: Town Hall Square, Livu Square, Dome Square and Vermanes Park from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. each day. In the evening of November 18, the festival will conclude with fireworks and laser show on the Daugava Embankment. The Festival of Light information centers are open at the Town Hall Square and Vermanes Park from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. each day.

Children's drawings, congratulating Latvia on the 90th Anniversary, exhibited at the Latvian War Museum in Riga. The exhibition of drawings by around 4500 children altogether will continue until December 7, when authors of the best drawings will be awarded within the framework of the "You Are Latvia" drawing contest.

Lacplesis Day (War Heroes Memorial Day) is celebrated with many events throughout the day all over Latvia. On the day, President Valdis Zatlers ceremoniously greeted all the people and soldiers who gathered by the Freedom Monument in Riga, on the 89th anniversary of the establishment of the Latvian Army. In his address, Zatlers pointed out that this was the day 89 years ago in which it was determined whether there would ever be an independent Latvia or not.

On November 11, when Latvian celebrates Lacplesis Day (War Heroes Memorial Day), the world marks the 90th anniversary since the end of World War I. On the eleventh month, of the eleventh day, on the eleventh hour, the Compiegne Armistice was signed, which ended military action on all fronts. This is the moment the whole world honors those who fought in the war. The ceremonies in countries all over the world will not be as emotional as they used to be, because almost all of the veterans that participated in the war have died. However, three Brits who fought in the war together with the French, Russian and Italians are still alive. The oldest of them is Henry Allingham, who is currently 112 years old.

''With the release of the postage stamp dedicated to Latvia's 90th anniversary of independence - ''Republic of Latvia - 90'', another page is written in Latvia's history,'' President Valdis Zatlers said during the presentation ceremony of the postage stamp. The chairman of the board of Latvia Post Ivars Kraukl also expresses his joy, that the national postal service is also involved in the nation's anniversary celebrations.
