RIGA, Nov 18 (LETA) - Today at 12 noon, a ceremonious Saeima session will start at the Latvian National Theater to mark the 90th Independence Day anniversary of Latvia, LETA learned from Saeima Press Service.
Saeima Chairman Gundars Daudze (Union of Greens and Farmers) will give an address to the participants in Saeima session.
RIGA, Nov 14 (LETA) - In honor of the 90th anniversary since the proclamation of independence of the Republic of Latvia, on November 17 a concert by organist Jevgenija Lisicina and counter-tenor Sergejs Jegers, organized by the Embassy of Latvia in Uzbekistan, will take place at the Uzbekistan State Conservatory, as the embassy informed LETA.
RIGA, Nov 14 (LETA) - On November 18, the Consulate General of Latvia in Bonn, Germany, will hold a festive reception at the Siegburg City Museum, as LETA learned from the Consulate General.
Among the invitees to the reception are representatives of the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia, State Chancellery and diplomatic corps, delegations from Latvian-German partnership cities, representatives of the Baltic Germans and Latvian communities in Germany, as well as holders of Latvian state decorations.
RIGA, Nov 14 (LETA) - On November 17, the Latvian Ambassador of Latvia to Canada Margers Krams and his wife Sandra Krama will host a festive reception at the National Art Center in Ottawa to mark the 90th jubilee of the Republic of Latvia, as the Latvian Embassy in Canada informed LETA.
Prior to the reception, Latvian pianist Arturs Ozolins will perform a concert for the invited guests. Invitees to the event are friends and supporters of Latvia in Canada, including representatives of Canadian government, officials working for political, cultural and social sectors, as well as foreign diplomats and Latvians living in Ottawa.
RIGA, Nov 14 (LETA) - Tonight a number of bridges, buildings, architectural sites, parks and art objects throughout Riga will be illuminated in various colors and/or be surrounded by light installations as the light festival "Staro Riga" ("Beaming Riga") starts today and will continue every night until November 18, as LETA learned from the festival's organizers.
RIGA, Nov 13 (LETA) - Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and Polish President Lech Kaczynski will arrive in Riga on November 19 for the 90th Independence Day of Latvia celebrations, as President Valdis Zatlers' advisor Maija Celmina informed LETA.
President Zatlers will participate in several events on November 18 in Riga: an ecumenical service in Riga Dome Church, flower-laying ceremony at the Freedom Monument, observe the National Armed Forces parade on the Daugava Embankment and attend a concert at the Latvian National Theater. In the evening, Zatlers will give a speech at the Freedom Monument.
RIGA, Nov 13 (LETA) - On November 10, Latvian Ambassador to the U.S. Andrejs Pildegovics went on a working visit to Mexico, where he will stay until tomorrow; yesterday Pildegovics jointly with Latvian honorary consuls in Mexico, held a reception in honor of the 90th anniversary of Latvia.
As the Foreign Ministry's Information and Public Relations Department informed LETA, invitees to the reception were Latvians living in Mexico and friends of Latvia.
RIGA, Nov 12 (LETA) - On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Latvia, European Parliament deputies Girts Valdis Kristovskis (Civic Union) and Inese Vaidere (Civic Union) present 338 DVD copies of Edvins Snore's documentary "Soviet Story" to schools in Latvia, LETA was informed by the Union for Europe of the Nations' European Parliament group's press administrator Aija Dulevska.
RIGA, Nov 11 (LETA) - The hall in the Foreign Ministry building, now named after the renowned Latvian statesman Zigfrids Anna Meierovics, will cherish his memory forever, said Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins at the ceremony today.
This hall is one of the largest in the building, and it is now adorned with a memorial plaque, made by artist Ivars Drulle, and the British ambassador's gift to Latvia - a collage with photographs and the correspondence between Meierovics and the British Foreign Office. Also in the hall - a small exhibit with photos and documents, reflecting Meierovics' illustrious career.
RIGA, Nov 11 (LETA) - On Thursday, November 13, a ceremonious event will take place at the Latvian War Museum, during which United States Ambassador to Latvia Charles Larson will present a gift from the U.S. Hoover Institution to Latvia's State Archive, as LETA learned from the Press and Culture Center of the U.S. Embassy in Latvia.
